On Thursday, November 21 the life-sized sculpture of a mountain lion was unveiled at The Art & Cultural Center at Fallbrook at a ceremony held from 5 until 7 p.m.

The sculpture is the first placement in the Palomares Wildlife Sculpture Garden and Horticultural Park. The sculpture was selected because it is the largest wild animal surviving in the Fallbrook region.

This Program is a joint venture between the Fallbrook Land Conservancy, the Art in Public Places Division of the Fallbrook Village Association and San Diego State University's Santa Margarita Reserve Staff. The Non-profit Art in Public Places Division of the Fallbrook Village Association, is now accepting donations to fund the sculpture, it's installation and maintenance.

For donation information call (760) 723 8384. All donations are tax deductible.

The vision for the Sculpture Garden is to plan a selection of sculptures of birds and animals within the area and provide information about their place in Fallbrook's unique ecological open space. The artistic form will be limited to representational images places in natural settings.

Friday November 22, the Fallbrook Village Association's Art in Public Places celebrated the unveiling of "Totem Bird" by Kort Heyneman at 3 p.m. at Beech Street Park.

Kort is an active 9 1/2 year old 4th grader who is involved in the arts. He created the papier mache bird in a class taught by Sofia at the Studios of Fallbrook in a summer class. Wendell Perry of The ArtWorks of Fallbrook suggested that the piece be expanded into bronze in a size that made a "statement". The Angel Society caught the enthusiasm and provided the seed money. Otis and Linda Heald were excited that it would be produced locally at the Artworks and contributed the next installment . Arlyne Ingold's love of children and art promoted the final funding.

The bronze version of "Totem Bird" was created and installed by Wendall Perry and the ArtWorks staff. The pedestal was installed by Bart Graves.

The "Totem Bird" can easily be seen by all who visit Beech Street Park. It is also clearly visible from North Mission Road.
