Wednesday July 10, The Fallbrook Village Association celebrated it's three new acquisitions, with a dedication ceremony held at The Art Studios of Fallbrook at 310 East Alvarado Ave. at 10:30 A.M. Vince Ross , President of The Fallbrook Village Association introduced Byrn and Joann Watson , who have been guiding the Art In Public Places Project. Joann Watson introduced Wendell Perry, director of The Art Works of Fallbrook who has created "The Fallbrook Fence" which encircles the back portions of the Art Works and The Art Studios of Fallbrook. The fence is made up of local historical objects, family momentos, found objects, donations of local artists, and a myriad of other sources. Through a theme of circle and grids, Perry has fashioned what he views as the interaction of all these pieces of Fallbrook history and it's people. The sculpture, "The Sentinel," which graces the entry to The Art Studios of Fallbrook, is the first Art on Loan piece to be placed in the community. This is a steel sculpture, one of a series of abstract works by Wendell Perry, who is the director of The Artworks foundry. " The Children's Totem Project" was also dedicated. This project involves four totems that have been created at The Art Studios of Fallbrook. The largest and most colorful totem has been donated by the Garrett Family. Ms. Garrett created it with her grandchildren and grown daughter as a family project. The remaining three totems were created the summer of 2000 by Robert Olds' Children's Mudslinger class. He commented on how he was delighted with the problem solving skills the children exhibited in creating the totems. The three projects dedicated are all wonderful contributions to Fallbrook and reflect the enthusiasm and diligence of our art community. To date eleven sculptures have been placed throughout Fallbrook. Seven murals can also be viewed downtown. For a list of these projects call either Byrn or Joanne Watson at The Art Studios of Fallbrook,728-6383. The Art In Public Places Program is a long range plan of The Fallbrook Village Association and The Art & Cultural Center. The Program encourages and supports sculpture and mural art to beautify and inspire our community. Site and themes will be established and as funds become available, art will continue to be added to the Fallbrook landscape. Celebrated San Diego sculptor James Hubble has entered the Art on Loan Project. His sculpture, is now at The Art Works of Fallbrook awaiting the proper pedestal, and is projected to be placed at The Art & Cultural Center at Fallbrook. |
